You are invited to the 2015 Spiritual Meetings following the 22nd GC Delegation Session near Roanoke, Virginia, USA
Anyone who has ever attended the Spiritual Meetings following the General Conference (“GC”) delegation sessions will never forget those memorable events. Whether it be of the early SDARM conventions or the more recent ones in Ploesti, Romania 1991 and 1995, in Itu, Brazil 1999 and 2003, in Jeju, South Korea 2007, or in Sibiu, Romania 2011—our memory is flooded with the images of brethren and friends we met, the truth-filled messages we heard, the elevating music we profoundly enjoyed.
This year, September 10-13, you will have a unique opportunity to attend yet another GC Spiritual Meetings; this time, however, on North American soil. This spiritual gathering will immediately follow the 22nd GC Delegation Session to be held near Roanoke, Virginia. The last time our church hosted a GC delegation session and spiritual convention in the United States was nearly 36 years ago.
About 10 km southwest of our GC headquarters is the city of Salem, nestled in the Roanoke Valley and surrounded by Blue Ridge Mountains. One of the well-known features here is the Salem Civic Center. This premier convention and meeting facility is one of the finest convention, sports and entertainment sites in Virginia. It can comfortably seat over 6,000 people and the parking accommodates 3,000 vehicles. For this event, the dining facility will also be staffed with our capable cooks and kitchen personnel, conveniently providing wholesome and tasty vegan meals for all at an affordable price.
Why should you and your family plan to be there?
Many of our members and friends will carefully deliberate whether or not to dedicate their time and financial resources to this event. Some might be tempted to think that their time and money could be used in a better way. Yet the Spirit of Prophecy has timely and pointed advice to all who might hesitate to include this event in their busy schedule. Reflecting on ancient Israel and the three annual festivals at which all Israel gathered for solemn convocations in Jerusalem to receive God’s special blessing, the pen of Inspiration bids us realize:
“It is important that the members of our churches should attend our camp meetings. The enemies of truth are many; and because our numbers are few, we should present as strong a front as possible. Individually you need the benefits of the meeting, and God calls upon you to number one in the ranks of truth.
“Some will say: ‘It is expensive to travel, and it would be better for us to save the money and give it for the advancement of the work where it is so much needed.’ Do not reason in this way; God calls upon you to take your place among the rank and file of His people. Strengthen the meeting all you possibly can by being present with your families. Put forth extra exertion to attend the gathering of God’s people.
“Those who gather at camp meetings must be impressed with the fact that the object of the meetings is to attain to a higher Christian experience, to advance in the knowledge of God, to become strengthened with spiritual vigor; and unless we realize this, the meetings will to us be fruitless.”—Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, pp. 38, 39.
What can you expect to learn and experience at this convention?
The theme of the convention is “Christ Is All, and in All.” No other topic could better satisfy our spiritual longings or more closely meet our present needs than this theme dedicated to our beloved Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.
“Christ, the precious Saviour, is to be the Christian’s all in all. Every holy thought, every pure desire, every godlike purpose, is from Him who is the light, the truth, and the way. Christ is to live in His representatives by the Spirit of truth. . . . Paul says, ‘I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me’ (Galatians 2:20).”—In Heavenly Places, p. 65.
Jesus Christ, this great Center of attraction, will be reflected upon from all essential perspectives as the Lamb that was slain for the human race, as the One Who is all for me, my friends, and my family—an all-sufficient heavenly gift, the One to Whom I give my all now, and the One to Whom belongs all my future.
These inspiring messages will be presented by speakers who have not only learned much about Christ from the Bible, but who also know Christ as their personal Saviour and dearest Friend. In addition, encouraging reports will be presented in word and picture about the worldwide progress of the four angels’ messages in every corner of the Lord’s vineyard. The GC regional secretaries and department leaders will share with you exciting testimonies about the amazing work of God’s grace in human hearts.
As we unite as a worldwide family in worship, prayer, testimony, praise and song, we will have a unique opportunity to clearly focus on the mission of the church and to petition our Heavenly Father for a greater portion of His Holy Spirit.
Music, as an essential part of true worship, will also receive much attention at this spiritual convention. Talented musicians from far and near will skillfully use their voices and instruments in worship, praise, and thanksgiving services.
