After a blessed Sabbath day full of encouraging messages, experiences, a variety of praise items, another work day began early with a group prayer meeting. The brethren gathered in groups of two or three in order to together send their prayers to the throne of grace, pleading for the presence of the Lord and the guidance of His Holy Spirit throughout the day.
Br. A. Gessner conducted the morning worship. He began with the passage from 1Peter 5:7-8. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
“There is no need for anyone to be anxious about the toils and problems of every day life,” he emphasized. “For if we cast all such cares upon Jesus, who knows what is the best for us all, we can rest assured that all that comes our way is for our best, and that blessings will follow.”
“If you feel yourself to be the greatest sinner, Christ is just what you need, the greatest Saviour. Lift up your head and look away from yourself, away from your sin, to the uplifted Saviour; away from the poisonous, venomous bite of the serpent to the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world. If we feel that we are the greatest sinner Christ is just what we need.” Lift Him Up 256.6
As we ended this worship time, the delegates joined their voices in singing the words of the hymn “There Was One Who Was Willing.” This hymn reflects on the beautiful hope we all share as a people of God. The united voices of the delegates representing our church worldwide brought a solemn and touching atmosphere into the meeting hall.
Business of the Day
One hundred and seventy-three delegates were seated to start the business of the day at 9:00am Sunday. Br. Sureshkumar addressed the session with a few words of encouragement, after which the session initiated with a season of prayers. The work began as the various delegates separated into their respective committees.
The committees came together once again at 4:00pm, and the temporary Bylaws Committee presented a partial report. As Br. Davi P. Silva, a member of the Bulletin Committee, was elected as the President of the General Conference on Friday, it was resolved that another person should take his place in the Bulletin Committee. Sr. Olivine E. Uy was nominated and elected as the new member of that Committee.
After much prayerful consideration, three names were presented for the office of First Vice President by the Nominating Committee. The First Vice President is to reside in the United States in order to directly assist the GC President. After 2 rounds of votes Br. Peter Lausevic was elected as the General Conference First Vice President. Br. Lausevic gave a word of thanks and asked for the support of the brethren all around the world in their prayers. Prayers were offered for Br. Peter by Br. Silva, and Br. Sureshkumar.
The temporary committees: Nominating, Doctrinal, Bylaws and Medical, resumed for another 40 minutes of work, after which the work day was concluded.
